Artist Kim Robertson’s sign using W1 from Dykes Lumber

Dear Kurt:
Here it is! Ta-da! The process for the sign was:
1. Buy one piece of WindsorOne 12″ x 5/4″ primed board, 64″ long.
2. Cover with exterior base coat in cream.
3. Measure and mask out border.
4. Paint border.
5. Measure and lay out design and text – free hand.
6. Paint text, pottery and trowel with professional artists’ pigments.
Spatter with thinned black and red paints to begin “antiquing” process.
7. Beat the heck out of the thing with garden rocks, chain, hammers,
nails, a screwdriver and sandpaper.
8. “Antique” with Liquitex gloss medium, black and burnt umber paints. (
Wipe on liberally with paper towels, let dry, and then lift off excess
with
a towel soaked
in Liquitex Gloss Medium thinned with water or use a
Scotch
Brite kitchen sponge to scour tough spots.)
9. Seal with two coats of UV protectant exterior varnish.
10. Deliver!
