A Farmhouse Renovation Just in Time for Christmas

We’ve seen some projects from Steve Menez of S.M. Menez Interior Moldings over the years and they’ve always been top notch. But you know you’re in for an extra special treat when a finish carpenter has some pics of his own home to share. (If you’re a builder reading this, and you have some W1 pics to share, please send them to Kurt and Scott at AsktheBoys@windsorone.com)… Ok where was I? Yes, this house! It’s a total transformation when every wall is thought out and considered. Here Steve used the shiplap wall theme to great effect, accented all architectural openings by trimming them with Classical Craftsman Moldings. You’ll see below he also worked in board and batten to change things up, and it blends in seamlessly.

Wood Stove with shiplap surround and built in storage

Built-in Storage & Surround for the Wood Stove

The black wood stove pops against the white shiplap walls. Built-in custom wood storage is nicely done; Working right into the shiplap walls topped off with the Craftsman header cap to tie into the trim on the windows and doors. Here the Crown Moulding Man chose the bold & clean lines of the WOCM006 crown from the Colonial Revival style to run throughout the house.

Above, the full scene of this cozy and warm living space. The shiplap walls are complemented with v-groove #230 ceiling; a ceiling a wall combo that is a fan favorite. Those v-groove runs are broken up with S4SSE beam wraps. During the course of the day the changing brightness from the windows and light fixtures create a dynamic space with shadow and light accentuated by the crisp WindsorONE profiles. (Shoutout to the Windsor Mill teams in California & Virginia for keeping those blades sharp during manufacturing!)

The Potential of Showcasing Trim in the Stairwell

A well-crafted pair of stairs can be like a piece of finely crafted furniture in the home. Each stain-grade tread is precise and is a perfect accent for S4SSE Trim Board risers and Shiplap sides. Also please bring your attention to how nicely this space is broken up; shiplap levels up to the 2nd floor, then transitions to board and batten from there to top step. An accent mini chandelier and art piece are a nice finishing touch.

A Timeless Look

The shiplap theme continues to this cozy bedroom. The Classic WindsorONE trim styles create the perfect backdrop for this stunning historic mantel. Setting a Christmas scene from today or from a previous century. Timeless looks like these are a great investment for your home.

Shiplap, V-groove, Beadboard are staple wall treatments for these powder rooms. How Do You Resolve Moldings in Tight Corners?

We often get asked this question. You wanted to use full size proportional moldings on your project, but there are some spaces where the full expression of the mitered molding doesn’t fit. Above, Steve has shown 2 ways in which he has resolved the WOHC001 Classical Craftsman Header Cap.

Farmhouse style shiplap walls, wide plank flooring, Craftsman trim and sliding bard door.

True Craftsmen Choose Wood

In summary, in this project Steve hit so many of the right notes. A key theme throughout is the materials choice of real wood. Those wide plank floors, sliding barn doors and WindsorONE primed wood throughout. The crisp edges, workability of wood; and it gives a different overall feel to a home. Also worth noting all WindsorONE products are sustainably harvested and have a Gold Indoor Air Quality Rating. When planning your next renovation take care in your material choices, and consider what’s healthiest for your home and the homes of your clients.
