This farmhouse renovation showcases expert craftsmanship and the natural beauty of wood in its floors and beams.
WindsorONE’s primed wood trim boards created stunning focal points to add texture and break up the natural patterns, while Griff Davis Construction executed the installation flawlessly.
Their planning, craftsmanship and material choices truly made this house a home.
Why Primed Wood Makes a Difference
When it comes to painted finishes, it’s easy to assume that any board will do. But selecting the right materials makes all the difference.
Primed wood isn’t just easier to cut, drill and shape — it ensures clean lines, consistent surfaces and long-lasting results.
Choosing primed boards means every wall, trim and detail can be installed with precision and durability, bringing designs to life exactly as envisioned.
How Primed Wood Was Highlighted In This Farmhouse
In this project, primed wood makes all the difference — from boards that ensure a smooth, precise installation to surfaces that remain flawless for years.
Every detail reflects careful material selection, combining durability with timeless farmhouse style.
Creating A Focal Point in The Staircase

A defining element of the home is the board-and-batten walls that line the staircase.
Primed finger-jointed boards provide exceptional straightness and consistency, making it possible to achieve perfectly clean, even stiles where any imperfection would be highlighted by the raking light.
By using premium cuts for quality and directing the rest of each log to other applications, the stairwell balances precision craftsmanship with a mindful, low-waste approach.
Elevating The Windows To Bring Nature Inside

Another standout feature of this home is the walls of windows that frame the surrounding forest.
It creates a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors, while the use of sustainable wood adds an extra layer of harmony with nature.
Using Simple Flat Stock Moldings

The trim in this home is a fresh take on S4SSE trim board styles. For sleek, smooth, square moldings, these boards are hard to beat.
This farmhouse used a 5/4×8 for the base, 5/4×5 for the casing and for a subtle historical touch, an implied frieze with a 5/4×6 and 1×2 cap.
The builders made it their own by simplifying the design — removing side reveals on the stool and cap for a cleaner, more modern look.
Adding an Accent Wall in the Bedroom

For a bedroom accent wall, the builders adapted the board and batten verticals into flat panels. Dividing the wall into thirds ensures the reading sconces sit perfectly in the lower panels.
Elevating The Kitchen With A Shiplap Backsplash

In the kitchen, a vertical shiplap backsplash creates a soft, linear backdrop that lets the navy cabinets take center stage.
Crisp white countertops and warm brass hardware complete the space, coming together in a palette that feels both classic and enduring.
Incorporating Built-ins For Additional Storage

Built-ins are a hallmark of a well-crafted custom home, and here they reflect a thoughtful balance of design and function.
The bay window bench creates an inviting spot to gather, with hidden storage that makes the most of the space. Though it sits low at the height of three WORS8 shiplap boards, it’s perfectly designed to accommodate a thick, comfortable cushion.
That same attention to detail carries into the kitchen nook, where drawers beneath the bench add practical storage. Shiplap on the base and back ties in beautifully with the vertical shiplap kitchen backsplash, creating a cohesive look.
Even the table feels intentional — perfectly sized and thoughtfully paired with the surrounding wood tones.

We control the process from tree planting to the finished trim boards at the pro lumberyard, ensuring that only the best cuts of each log go into our trim while the rest are used for products where precision isn’t required.
Every part of the tree is utilized, making our operation both sustainable and responsible — supporting supply and the environment for generations.

FAQ Section
Q: How do I choose the right trim for a farmhouse look?
A: Consider boards that offer precision, straightness and durability — like finger-jointed or carefully selected trim. Board and batten, flat panels and shiplap are classic options that can be customized for a modern or historical aesthetic.
Q: What makes built-ins an important feature in a custom farmhouse?
A: Built-ins maximize space while adding style and function. Thoughtful details — like hidden storage, bench cushions or matching shiplap — turn functional elements into design highlights.
Q: Are WindsorONE products safe for indoor use?
A: Yes! All of our products carry a Gold Indoor Air Quality Rating from SCS Global Services, which means they meet the strictest emissions standards.
Q: Is there a resource available for how to install a flat panel accent wall?
A: Absolutely. In this video, Richard from Finish Carpentry TV shows an installation of a flat panel grid accent wall using WindsorONE S4SSE Trim Boards and a creative use of picture mold WOPM004.
Q: What should I know about using primed wood in areas like bathrooms?
A: If you are installing primed boards in high-moisture areas, our TRU-CORE® weather resistance system is a great option for enhanced protection. This system limits the board’s ability to absorb moisture for added durability.
