Good vs. Bad Moldings & The Problem With Fakery
In the latest from the “The Timeless House” Brent Hull goes over how to tell the good moldings from the bad or fake moldings. He contrasts the idea of the crowded unreadable bumpy crown vs. the idea of a clear readable crown with classical proportions.
“More is not better, it’s worse.” This idea of simulating the build up of many moldings in a crown with these haphazard bumpy/bulgy moldings, is a misguided notion that some think suggests a quality “super crown.”
“At the end of the day, McMansion crown-molding is just fakery. Much like Jack Black with this ridiculous muscle shirt, it is pretending. Ultimately we are only fooling ourselves.”
